This is the best mixtape of the year so far. I may be biased because I am a huge XV fan, but every rap fan should agree that it will be a top 5 mixtape this year. For me personally, it's in the top 5 mixtapes I've ever owned. This is one of the few mixtapes that I can listen to all the way through and be impressed every single song because every single song is high quality work. So now I know you're wondering why this tape is good and why you should download it. If you listen to it once through that should be more than enough explanation, but let me tell you why.
The versatility of Popular Culture showcases XV's amazing flow and lyrical ability. My personal favorite song is "Go On Without Me" which was produced by D. Good and The Awesome Sound. XV has always been known for being real and his ability to paint a picture with his words which makes "Go On Without Me" a masterpiece. Throughout the tape there seems to be a good balance of features ranging from Schoolboy Q and B.o.B. to the reoccurring feature of Raja. Of course XV doesn't need a feature to hold his own but the features on Popular Culture were well thought out and add to the overall quality of the tape.
One last thing I would like to mention is the production. The production is ridiculously good throughout the whole tape. XV is an amazing artist, and some of the top producers in the game ranging from Xaphoon Jones to The Awesome Sound helped produce this masterpiece of a project. Without amazing production it would have been a good mixtape, but instead it's a great mixtape.
From the Willy Wonka sample to the Mary Kate & Ashley sample to the Inception sample, there is definitely something for everyone on this tape. In my opinion XV is one of the top 5 rappers in the game at the moment, and this tape solidify's my argument. Be sure to listen and download below! #SquarianWeek!!!!!
